2005 NEC Proposals Deadline

Users of the 2002 NEC are still busy learning and implementing the changes in the 2002 edition, but it is important to note that the deadline for the first phase of the 2005 edition of the Code is fast approaching. The NEC process is dynamic, and the three-year development cycle begins the moment the current edition becomes available for use and adoption. The document is written by its users, as changes to the Code originate from proposals submitted by those who use, or are affected by, its requirements.

Proposals for the 2005 NEC must be received at NFPA headquarters by November 1 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

The proposals can be submitted by regular mail, fax, or e-mail. A 2005 NEC proposal form (PDF*, 124 KB) is included in the back of the 2002 NEC, or you may get one by contacting the NFPA Standards Administration Department at +1 617 984-7249.

If you plan to submit your proposals on disk, we encourage you to use a simple format to avoid conversion problems. The following is a guideline:

  • Key tables in using Word in the cell format rather than tabs.
  • Avoid the revision level application.
  • Do not use auto format.
  • Do not use auto numbering.
  • Do not use auto bullets.
