Sears - Committed to our Military

Image1How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up for active duty.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years.

  • Sears goes back a long ways in this practice! When I need to get something new, I know where my dollars will shop first. Hat off to you Sears!

Sears is Providing Financially for Employees Who are Reservists on Active Duty-Truth! Summary of the eRumor The eRumor says that Sears is doing more than the law requires by paying the difference between active duty pay and their salaries for reservists called to serve and providing other benefits.

The Truth According to a spokesman for Sears, the company has extended the period in which it will make up the difference between active duty pay and normal salary for 60 months.

Medical, dental, and life insurance are extended as well.

The employee pays part and the company pays part.

Sears is also offering a make-up plan on 401K plans so a reservist will not lose retirement benefits.

Sears records show that the company has provided support to employees serving in the military since 1916.

Although Sears is the focus of this particular eRumor, there are numerous other companies offering financial help to reservists who are on active duty.

  • Sears joins many companies such as Honeywell International, makers of the ubiquitous thermostats, Fram and Prestone brands in addition to jet engines and fibers for personal armor. They currently continue regular pay for up to 18 months of service.

  • this is great that Sears is just not looking at the bottom line that is profit. they are also looking to take care of there people the men and women of the company and of this country. It is a shame more companys do not follow the sample of being a patriot. At the same time we understand not all companies can do what sears is doing. small company can not afford to do this but help in other ways there are still good people in this great country of ours MY GOD BLESS THIS COUNTRY

  • It is out standing. That one US company is doing right by our troops. We need to wake up and start buying American. And get our quality in workmanship and pride back.

  • I think that this is definetly "patriotism", and the plus is that it's a "win-win" situation. Sears holds the job open, makes up the difference in remuneration, but in return gets an employee that has been conditioned to "complete the mission".
