640.6 Mechanical Execution of Work/Cable Support
The text to this section was revised to read:
Equipment and cabling must be installed in a neat and workmanlike manner. Cables installed exposed on the surface of ceilings and sidewalls must be supported by the structural components of the building in such a manner that the cable will not be damaged by normal building use. Such cables must be secured to structural components by straps, staples, hangers or similar fittings designed and installed so as not to damage the cable. Figure 640-1
Intent: The revised text clarifies that cables must be properly secured and protected from physical damage.
Cables installed parallel to framing members must be protected against physical damage from penetration by screws or nails by 1.25 in. separation from the framing member or by a suitable metal plate in accordance with 300.4(D). Figure 640-2
