Article 376 (362 in 1999 NEC)

Metal Wireways

376.23 Wireway Sizing

This section was revised to read:

(B) Wireway Used as Pull Box. Where insulated conductors 4 AWG or larger are pulled through a wireway, the distance between raceway and cable entries enclosing the same conductor shall not be less than required by 314.28. Figure 376-2
Intent: This rule was revised to clarify that when a wireway is used as a pullbox for conductors 4 AWG and larger, it must be sized as a pullbox in accordance with 314.28 as follows:

Straight pulls, the minimum distance from where the conductors enter to the opposite wall must not be less than 8 times the trade size of the largest raceway 314.28(A)(1)].

Angle pulls, the distance from the raceway entry to the opposite wall must not be less than 6 times the trade diameter of the largest raceway, plus the sum of the diameters of the remaining raceways on the same wall and row [314.28(A)(2)].

U Pulls, when conductor enters and leaves from the same wall, the distance from where the raceways enter to the opposite wall must not be less than 6 times the trade diameter of the largest raceway, plus the sum of the diameters of the remaining raceways on the same wall and row [314.28(A)(2)].

The distance between raceways enclosing the same conductor shall not be less than 6 times the trade diameter of the largest raceway, measured from raceway edge to edge [314.28(A)(2)].
