406.8 Receptacles in Damp or Wet Locations

(B) Wet Locations.
(2) Other Receptacles. All other receptacles installed in a wet location must comply with (a) or (b).
(a) A receptacle installed in a wet location must have raintight while-in-use cover (enclosure that is weatherproof with the attachment plug cap inserted) if stationary or fixed equipment is plugged into it.
(b) A receptacle installed in a wet location having a weather resistant cover (cover that is weatherproof when the cover is closed and an attachment plug is not inserted) is permitted, if portable equipment is plugged. Figure 406-3
