Mike Pillarella was our dear friend, and a member of many of our DVD teams. On March 15th he passed away after living the best of lives: in service to his community, finding ways to improve the industry and caring deeply about his family and friends. Mike will be missed by us and by all who had the pleasure of working with him. Rest in Peace, dear friend, and know that you will be missed by all of us.

 

One of his friends, Eric Stromberg, served with him on many of our DVD teams and sent us this reflection about his life.  It was so touching and we could not agree more.



THE LIFE OF A GOOD FRIEND

In the movie "The Last Samurai" in the end the emperor asked Tom Cruise "Tell me how he died". Tom Cruise answered the emperor with "I'll tell you how he lived".

Ask anyone to name a teacher. Everyone will be able to talk about one particular teacher. The teacher will be mentioned by name, and stories will be told of how the teacher affected the storyteller's life. I often ask people why they chose a particular direction in life. Almost invariably the answer is "Well, there was this one teacher..."

Michael Pillarella was one of those teachers. Michael has passed away, but he will never be gone. He took from the substance of his life and gave to others through his teaching. The difference he made in others will live on in them and will be passed on down through the generations. What he was will never die because it has become a part of the substance of life.

Thank you Michael. I am a changed person because of your influence in my life. Your legacy will live on in all of those whom you touched.

Good bye my friend, and may you rest in peace.

  • Mike was great teacher and an even better friend. He always kept us laughing during the DVD recordings, and especially at night after the recordings. I already miss him, its going to be tough doing the next three years of recordings without him there.

  • I lost my best friend of 45 years to cancer in 2013 I still think of things that I should did to help him , but it was Gods will and hopefully some time in the future I will see him again. Looking back at my life, I know the Lord works in strange ways at times and there is a plan for each of us. I am so sorry for your loss.

  • My condolences to the Pillarella family and the Mike Holt Enterprise. Although we never met, I am thankful for the contributions he made to Mike's curriculum. Many of us are better electricians and teachers because of it. May God's Grace be abundant to the surrounding families.
