Veterans Day

The Meaning of Veterans Day

This federal holiday is designated as a day to honor all those who have served in the military. According to Military.com, Veterans Day began as Armistice Day to honor the end of World War I, which officially took place at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. As a result, it is always recognized on November 11th, regardless of the days of the week the 11th falls on.

The day was originally set aside to honor the Veterans of World War 1, with a day of parades and remembrances as well as a pause in activities at 11am on that day. After World War II and the Korean War, Congress expanded the meaning of the day to recognize Veterans of all wars. In contrast, Memorial Day recognizes those who died in service to our country.

Let us remember, honor, and pay special tribute to all our veterans who have served and continue to serve our country. They deserve our gratitude, praise and respect.

We are grateful for your service. God bless our Veterans.

  • There are those among us who were Electricians and Electrical workers in the service. I’m proud to say I was a member of the best trained most flexible and only true active duty soldiers under the Office of the Chief of Engineers. The Prime Power Soldiers serve to help provide power to the hard hit disaster zones like the Hurricanes last year in The Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Florida along with the Mariannas. In 92 we earned the Army Superior Unit award for disaster assistance across ten time zones simultaneously in Florida, Hawaii and Guam. Hurricanes Andrew, Iniki and Typhoon Omar! They have since earned that same award several times for the same actions. See them in action here. Disasters is not the only mission they also have provided power to the Theater of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan! https://www.facebook.com/249thEngineerBattalion/
