Here's the follow-up to yesterday's newsletter. This includes the answers to the questions sent, so you can see how you did.

Note: The answers to these questions are based on the 2020 NEC.

Q1. What are the Code requirements for GFCI protection in mobile homes and manufactured homes?
A1. GFCI-Protected Receptacles. Ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection must be provided as required in 210.8(A). GFCI protection is not required for other than 125V, 15A and 20A receptacles installed within a mobile or manufactured home in the following areas [550.13(B)]: 

(1) Compartments accessible from the outdoors.
(2) Bathroom areas.
(3) Kitchens, where receptacles are installed to serve countertop surfaces. 
(4) Sinks, where within 6 ft from the top inside edge of the sink. 
(5) Dishwasher outlets.

Q2. What is the definition of shore power for marinas?
A2. Shore Power. The electrical equipment required to power a floating vessel including, but not limited to, the receptacle and cords [555.2]. 

Q3. What is the maximum Code allowable voltage for pier power distribution systems in marinas and boatyards?
A3. Maximum Voltage [555.5]

Pier power distribution systems must not exceed 250 volts phase to phase. Pier power distribution systems, where qualified personnel service the equipment under engineering supervision, are permitted to exceed 250 volts but these systems must not exceed 600 volts.

Q4. What is the NEC requirement for sign outlets in commercial buildings?
A4. (A) Required Branch Circuit. Each commercial building or occupancy accessible to pedestrians must have at least one outlet located at the entrance of each tenant space that is supplied by an individual branch circuit rated at least 20A [600.5(A)]. Figure 01

A sign or outline lighting outlet is not required at entrances for deliveries, service corridors, or service hallways that are intended to be used only by service personnel or employees. 

Q5. What is the Code rule for the marking of disconnects for signs in commercial buildings?
A5. Marking. A disconnecting means for a sign, outline lighting system, or controller must be marked to identity the sign, outline lighting system, or controller it controls [600.5(B)]. 

Ex: An external disconnecting means that is mounted on the sign body, sign enclosure, sign pole, or controller is not required to identify the sign or outline lighting system it controls.
