NASCLA Electrical Examination Program Feedback

September 19, 2024 | Share: Facebook Twitter Instagram

Electrical education is our key concern and I'm always looking out for information and resources that I believe will add value, and help keep the industry safe. The National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA) is in the process of updating the content for the Accredited Electrical Examination Program, and I wanted to bring to your attention that they are asking for participation in their survey. I hope you find it has merit.

NASCLA has prepared three (3) separate surveys, each tailored to a specific classification. They're asking for your input which they believe is crucial in shaping the future of electrician licensing.

They are asking you to please review the definitions provided on their website and select the survey that aligns with your experience:

Survey 1: Master/Unlimited Electricians
Survey 2: Journeyman Electricians
Survey 3: Residential Electricians

Your feedback will help enhance the relevance and effectiveness of these exams, which are used as trade exam waivers for various state agencies across the country, creating mobility and portability for licensed electricians.

Additionally, please share this request with your colleagues, employees, chapter members, and other licensees to help them gather a comprehensive national response.

Please visit their website and submit your survey responses by October 31, 2024.

  • The biggest challenge with a multi-state approved exam is the difficulty/challenging aspects of the exam itself. It seems like a conflict of interest if the exam questions/difficulty levels are widely known which would make the exam easier to pass. Some states want a challenging exam. We have no clue if that is the case with this test. Thumbs down for me.

    Thank you for your comment.

The examination(s) are challenging. You are exactly correct; state agencies would not accept or administer these examinations if there were too easy or not challenging enough. What we are looking to gather is if the updated content is accurate for what electricians do in the field, across the nation. From there, there are calculations, etc. to make sure the items based off of this content are scaled correctly. The items are not released to the public of course. Your feedback on these questionnaires allows NASCLA to make sure the examinations are an accurate description of what is done on the job. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.
