Metal-Clad Cable: Type MC

330.108 Equipment Grounding (Bonding)

Section rewritten to clarify when Type MC cable is permitted to serve as an equipment grounding (bonding) path.
Where MC cable is used for equipment grounding it must comply with 250.118(10) and 250.122.

Author’s Comment: The armor on interlocked Type MC cable isn’t listed as an equipment grounding (bonding) conductor (effective ground-fault current path), therefore an equipment grounding (bonding) conductor must be installed within the metal armor wrap [250.118(10)]. Figure 330-4

  • Can this equipment grounding conductor be bare inside the MC cable or does it have to be insulated? Thanks Joe
