600.21 Ballasts, Transformers, and Electronic Power Supplies

This subsection was revised to read:

(F) Suspended Ceilings. Ballasts, transformers, and electronic power supplies are permitted to be located above suspended ceilings, provided their enclosures are securely fastened in place and not dependent on the suspended ceiling grid for support. Ballasts, transformers, and electronic power supplies installed in suspended ceilings cannot be connected to the branch circuit by flexible cord. Figure 600–1

Intent: This change correlates with 400.8(2) and (5) which prohibit flexible cords within the space above a suspended ceiling.
