The basic concept of selective coordination, on the surface, is wonderful. The downside is that practically it is difficult/impossible in many cases in the instantaneous region of the tripping characteristic.
Of course the addition of the requirement in 700 and 701 was pushed in by Bussman, as they had the most to gain. There will be plenty of emergency/critical circuits that will have fuses as a result of the requirement, and since the proper replacement will not be available quickly, there will be much more downtime, then if this requirement didn't exist.
