Hard to Find Information About Distribution Systems, Volume 1
Below is the preface from Jim Burke’s paper titled Hard to Find Information About Distribution Systems, Volume 1:
There have been little tidbits of information I have accumulated over the past 40 years that have helped me understand and analyze distribution systems. I have pinned them to my wall, taped them to my computer, stuffed them in my wallet and alas, copied them for my students. Much of them are hard, if not impossible, to find in any reference book. A large percentage of them could also be classified as personal opinion so they should be used carefully. For whatever, I hope they are as useful to you as they have been to me.
Over the many years, this document has taken on a life of its own. There have been many suggestions and much help from so many distribution engineers that it is impossible to thank all of you. From the new topics such as “stray voltage” and “grounding” to the many surveys we’ve all done together (lightning, loading, etc) and finally the less serious sections like “Ways We Scare Ourselves” and “ Airline Cabin Announcements”, this has been a lot of fun to work on.
