Keeping up with the requirements of the Code should be the goal of everyone involved in electrical safety. Following is what I feel is an important rule in the 2020 NEC®, complete with graphics and a video. I encourage you to use it as a training resource for your organization, and share it with your colleagues.

A bonding termination device must be provided for communications systems in accordance with (A) and (B).
Author's Comment: |
â–ºThese systems include communication systems (Article 805), radio and TV equipment (Article 810), and CATV (Article 820). Bonding communications systems together is intended to minimize damage from induced voltage differences between the systems that can be caused by lightning strikes. â–¶Figure 250-178

(A) Intersystem Bonding Termination Device. An intersystem bonding termination device must meet all of the following requirements:
(1) Be accessible. â–¶Figure 250-179
(2) Have a capacity for at least three intersystem bonding conductors.
(3) Be installed so it does not interfere with the opening of any enclosure.
(4) Be securely mounted and electrically connected to the service disconnect, meter enclosure, or grounding electrode conductor. â–¶Figure 250-180
(5) Be securely mounted and electrically connected to the building's disconnect or grounding electrode conductor.
(6) Be listed as grounding and bonding equipment.

Author's Comment: |
â–º According to Article 100, an Intersystem Bonding Termination is a device that provides a means to connect communications systems' (twisted wire, antennas, and coaxial cable) bonding conductors to the building grounding electrode system.
|
Ex: An intersystem bonding termination device is not required where communications systems are not likely to be used.
Note 2: Communications systems (twisted wire, antennas, and coaxial cable) must be bonded to the intersystem bonding termination in accordance with the following requirements: â–¶Figure 250-181
â–ºAntennas/Satellite Dishes [810.15 and 810.21]
â–ºCATV [820.100]
