Mike Holt Enterprises Understanding the NEC

Keeping up with the requirements of the Code should be the goal of everyone involved in the electrical industry. The following is what I feel is an important rule in the 2020 NEC®, complete with graphics and a video. I encourage you to use it as a training resource for your organization, and share it with your colleagues.

Article 430 (Motors) is pretty complicated and provides many opportunities to make errors when determining motor short-circuit, ground-fault, and overload protection, or when sizing conductors. Motors have a nameplate current rating (FLA) but they also have horsepower and voltage ratings which are used for determining the current ratings (FLC) found in the tables in the NEC.

If you wonder what you should do with all these numbers, join Mike and his panel of Code experts as they explain how to properly size motor overloads, short-circuit and ground-fault protection, and conductors.
