Product Recall
Milbank U9090-O 200 Amp Single Phase Meter Socket

Image1
Milbank Mfg.’s Sales Engineer has sent out a letter regarding a “potentially dangerous” situation with their U9090-O meter sockets.

If the unit is installed, DO NOT ENERGIZE! Contact Milbank for instructions for having the unit returned and a new unit shipped out. If the unit is not installed, they will arrange to have it returned for repair or be replaced.

This is the underground box used by National Grid NY. It has stud lugs for the line feed. It is not the standard 200 amp. UG/OH box used by NYSEG and RGE as well as others.

Please watch for these in NG area as well as any other utility using these boxes.

  • Can anybody tell me if these are used anywhere else, such as in Arizona? I know of a couple of recent explosions when plugging in a meter locally.

    Thanks,

  • This is a reminder to check the meter socket CAREFULLY. We had some designed for a corner grounded delta system that were installed on a regular 208/120 Y system.

Needless to say: when the power company swiched on the power it went BANG!

And anyone looking at it LATER could say- "Of course, one of the line side lugs is connected to the can"

But it was not noticed by a good electrician, a good inspector, or a good lineman. Everything was tight and secure-

So as the man says: "Be careful out there!"

The meter socket is often considered the simplest part of the installation, 3-4 wires in and 3-4 wires out- what could be easier?

The notation of which meter sockets are involved remindes of of two things: 1
