A Time to Remember

Memorial Day is a day to take a moment to remember our valiant military service members who died for our country and our freedom. It is a day of both celebration and grief. We celebrate our freedom and the official start of summer with outdoor events and picnics, but before anything else, it's about honoring those heroes and the sacrifice they made

On Memorial Day we pay tribute to those who never got to come home - they made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives for our freedom. That's different from Veterans Day, when we thank and honor the contribution of all those who have served and continue to serve our country.

Thank you Mike for the Memorial Day Post. Lost a neighbor living across the Street from us , a kid from our grade school, 28 brave young men from my brothers high school in Viet Nam . My brother enlisted and ended up humping a M60 during his tour and lucky draftee me got sent to a assault helicopter company as a field wire man & company electrician for my tour. Never fired my weapon so do not feel like a veteran. Like to drive down to the Philadelphia Viet Nam Memorial at sun rise to slowly pass the names of the 648 brave soldiers from Philly that lost their lives over there. Even though the Vietnam war officially ended 50 years ago just a few days ago it will never be over for the unfortunate soldiers suffering from PTSD. We must never forget that our veterans have protected us for the last 250 years.

My dad served in Europe and North Africa, WW2. Built caskets for many of the fallen. He always choked up what little he talked about it.
