Background
Over 22 years of diversified field experience in electrical power systems with strong emphasis on power quality audit investigation, load monitoring, energy management-reduction, large diesel generators & generator controls, metering and protective relaying.
Good understanding of electric utility distribution, transmission and sub-transmission systems and able to quickly identify the cause of facility voltage issue.
Graduate of University of Houston, class of '85, worked as project electrical engineer for Houston Light & Power, Bechtel Corp., KBR-Haliburton, Qatar Shell, Stewart & Stevenson, Sargent-Lundy, American Electric Power (AEP), Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and residence engineer at various natural gas, co-gen & coal fired power generating stations.
Utilizing state of art power monitoring equipment allows quick identification of signature waveform left behind during an event i.e. voltage disturbance that causes equipment failure or malfunction whether is originated on electric utility system or on facility internal side.
Since 2002 involved with and managing all power quality investigations for Ameren-Illinois Power company, covering all service area territories in state of Illinois.
Customers include: Large manufacturing facilities, Data centers, gas transmission & pumping station, furnace/steel plants, automotive part manufacturing, electric utility, substations, Co-ops, Landfill power generation-clean fuel, water treatment plants, municipalities-city governments, police dept., rail roads, cable-phone companies, school and university, hospital, dairy farms, hog farms, saw mill, large CNC machine shops, hotel-resort, newspaper & advertizing company, commercial facilities, residential, to name a few.
Topics of Expertise
1) Power quality investigations & facility load monitoring.
2) Forensic investigation to cause of cause of electical fire, perform root-cause analysis i.e. motors, pumps, compressors, VFD/ASD drives, etc.
3) Identify cause of momentary outages, blinks, equipment failure, shutdowns, etc.
4) Harmonic study, variable frequency drives VFD/VSDs, harmonic distortion
5) System & equipment grounding review for compliance with latest NEC Article 250.
6) Determine cause of voltage sags, swells, transients, UPS failure and recommed necessary & economical fixes based on captured data-facts.
7) Farm stray voltage investigations.
8) Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and TV Interference (TVI) investigations, phone & cable company noise or harmonic interference issues.
9) Electric utility system, voltage issues on the grid, transformer failure, blown fuse issue, faulty capacitor banks, line voltage regulators, malfunctioning reclosers/OCRs.
10) Lightning protection, surge suppresion-TVSS.
11) Large diesel generator systems, generator controls, 13.8KV utility peak-shaving and load-demand switchgears.
12) Landfill power generation, load monitoring & energy management.
