FUEL CELL SYSTEMS
The two following definitions explain what a fuel cell and fuel cell system is.
Fuel Cell. An electrochemical system that consumes fuel to produce an electrical current. The main chemical reaction used in a fuel cell for producing electrical power is not combustion. There may be sources of combustion used within the overall fuel cell system such as reformers/fuel processors.
Intent: The new definitions clarify the what a fuel cell and fuel cell system is.
Fuel Cell System. The complete aggregate of equipment used to convert chemical fuel into usable electricity. A fuel cell system typically consists of a reformer, stack, power inverter, and auxiliary equipment.
