Background
Electrician since 1983.
Electrical inspector since 1993.
Apprenticeship instructor since 1996.
Seminar instructor since 2001.
I started working in the electrical field for a company called Urban Francis. This company is primarily an industrial electrical company. I spent most of my days there working in petroleum storage facilities. I learned a lot about hazardous locations.
From there I went to work for Summit electric. This company was the complete opposite of Urban Francis. They only worked in new houses. In three months I was running my own development. I learned how to wire a house as quickly as anybody can in a production world.
I left Summit to go to another company, D&D electric. This company was a small company but had a lot of work. They did mostly residential service work. They also did some new residential and some light commercial work.
A&J electric is where I found myself working next. This company does mostly new residential work, but most of their work was on high end custom houses. It was a major change of pace from the track house I was used to.
I then went to work for a small company with a big name, J.T. Huss electrical enterprises. It was just me and the boss. We did mostly commercial work with a little residential service work thrown in. I learned a lot about running a company with this job.
I went back to another all new residential company called Catonsville electric. I was back to wiring houses as fast as possible to keep up with the rapidly growing area.
After several years of trying I was finally hired with the Baltimore county government. I started there as an electrician working on sewage pumping plants. Yes it was a stinky job but someone had to do it.
A few years later I got the chance of a life time. I was hired as one of Baltimore county?s electrical inspectors. Now I have been there working with some of the best in this business for many years.
After a few years working as an inspector I was fortunate enough to get another once in a life time offer, to instruct in the highest regarded apprenticeship program in the state. I went to work for the Harford County Electrical Contractors Apprenticeship program instructing a 4th year class. I finally found my true calling.
Five years later I was asked to do a seminar for the school. It was on the 2002 code changes. I was reluctant but was told that nobody was doing this in this area anymore and they really needed someone. I did it and found out just how much I enjoy doing this and how much other people enjoy listening to me instructing. From there on I knew what I wanted to do.
