License Requirements
Reciprocity
Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, Oklahoma, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota and Utah. Alaska no longer has reciprocal agreements with the states of Oregon, Idaho, Washington or Wyoming.
Exam Testing Company
- Exams are given by appointment only. Call the Mechanical Inspection office in Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau to schedule an appointment. Note: Contact the Anchorage office for information on testing in other selected Alaska communities

Exam Details
- 4 hour time limit on all exams. Electrical Journeyman and Electrical Residential exams are Open Book.
Renewal
- Biennial on the date of issue.

- Electrical Administrator License examinations in Alaska will be conducted by PSI Exams (800) 733-9267.
Renewal
- Biennial: licenses expire odd years on December 31. Biennial Electrical Administrator License Renewal
Alaska Electrical Continuing Education Required: Alaska Electrical Administrators are required to obtain 8 hours of NEC. Alaska Electrical Journeymen are required to obtain 16 hours of continuing education, 8 hours must be General Code.
Alaska Electrical License Renewal: Licensees must renew every 2 years by December 31st on odd numbered years.
