Illinois Statewide NEC Adoption
There is no statewide adoption of the NEC. The state adopted the 2008NEC statewide effective July 1, 2011 for non-building code jurisdictions.The following local jurisdictions have adopted the 2008 NEC: Bloomington, Danville, Decatur, Glenn Ellyn, Normal, Rock Island, State of Illinois Capital Development, Washington.

Illinois does not have state licensing. Licensing is handled at the local level. Contact your local board for licensing and renewal requirements.
Chicago
Chicago Electrical licenses are effective for a calendar year and must be renewed annually. There are no continuing education requirements.
