License Requirements
Must show 8,000 hours or 4 years of hands on electrical work experience or a completed apprenticeship program approved by the US Dept of Labor or a completed vocational course approved by the WV Dept of Education of no less than 1080 hours.

- 2020 as of January 1, 2022
Exam Details
42 multiple choice questions (worth 2 points each) and 4 calculations (worth 4 points each) which may include simple calculations referencing power factors, voltage drops, resistance, circuit requirements, etc.
Renewal
- Annual; expire June 30 each year (except temporary licenses). If your license lapses for more than (12) twelve months you may not renew your license and shall retest to receive your license. No exceptions. Renewal

Testing NEC Edition

Exam Details
50 multiple choice questions (worth 1 point each) and 10 calculations (5 points each) which may include intricate calculations referencing service loads, power factor, voltage drop, service size, demand load, circuit resistance, outlet requirements, etc.

License Requirements
West Virginia law requires that each business operating in the construction industry be licensed. To become licensed, a company representative must demonstrate competency by passing the required exam(s) in the field of construction for which licensure is being sought. A company can have multiple qualifiers.

West Virginia Electrician License Renewal: License(s) expires June 30th every year. Per the state website "License holders will receive a renewal notice in April for your convenience. Return the renewal form with the appropriate licensure fee in the provided envelope." Confirm your renewal directly with the board.
