Electrical Licensing Boards - New York
New York Statewide NEC Adoption
2017 NEC effective 5/12/2020. The official effective date of the 2020 New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and State Energy Code, which references the 2017 National Electrical Code, is May 12, 2020, for all local jurisdictions statewide except for the City of New York.
Stay up to date with your state's Code activity by visiting the NEMA website, or NFPA. Please check with your State Board. Licensing requirements do change, and this site may not have been updated to reflect those changes.

**Courses listed below are approved in Suffolk County, NY only**
Suffolk County Electrical CEU Requirements: Master Electricians require 8 hours every 2 years and Restricted Electricians require 4 hours every 2 years.
**NOTE: Restricted electrical licenses are only approved for Limited Energy, Wiring Methods, and Motor Controls courses listed below
Suffolk County, New York Electrical License Renewal: Licenses expire every 2 years on the last day of the month the license was issued. Proof of continuing education is due upon renewal.
