License Requirements
General Journeyman Electrician (J) Scope Make any electrical installation under the supervision, direction, and control of a general supervising electrician, unless doing work that requires the direction of a limited supervising electrician or doing work requiring no supervision OAR 918-282-0170
Qualifications
- 1. Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in Oregon; OR
- 2. Official transcripts verifying 576 hours of classroom training and verification of 8,000 hours of on-the-job experience obtained outside of Oregon. Experience must include a breakdown of hours, showing a minimum of 1,000 hours in each category: residential, commercial, and industrial (300 percent rule applies); OR
- 3. Verification of 16,000 hours of on-the-job experience obtained outside of Oregon showing a minimum of 2,000 hours in each category: residential, commercial, and industrial (300 percent rule applies).

Application Form
The division must approve applicants before they are allowed to take a licensing examination. Applicants approved to take an examination will be sent a "Letter of Authorization." Triennial. A renewal notice will be mailed to the licensee approximately six weeks prior to the expiration of their license. Renewal Process
License Requirements
General Supervising Electrician (S) Scope Design, plan, and lay out work and sign all permits. The only individual authorized to direct, supervise, or control the installation or alteration of an electrical service. OAR 918-282-0140
Qualifications
- 1. Be a licensed Oregon journeyman electrician and provide verification of an additional 8,000 hours of on-the-job journeyman experience; OR
- 2. Meet the qualifications to be licensed as an Oregon journeyman electrician and provide verification of an additional 8,000 hours of on-the-job journeyman experience (300 percent rule applies).

Electrical Contractor (C) An electrical contractor license is a specialized license allowing a company to engage in the business of making electrical installations. This license is required in addition to licensing and bonding required by the Construction Contractors Board.

Oregon Electrical Continuing Education Required:
The list below shows how many CE hours are required for each Oregon license type, and how many of those hours must be Code Changes in order to renew that license. All credits may be in Code Change. If the license type is not listed, confirm your requirements directly with the state.
General Supervising (S) - 24 hours total, min 12 hours on Code Change, min 4 on Oregon Rule & Law
Limited Supervising (PS) - 24 hours total, min 12 hours on Code Change, min 4 on Oregon Rule & Law
General Journeyman (J) - 24 hours total, min 8 hours on Code Change, min 4 on Oregon Rule & Law
Limited J. Manuf. Plant (PJ) - 16 hours total, min 8 on Code Change, min 4 on Oregon Rule & Law
Limited Residential (LR) - 16 hours total, min 8 hours on Code Change, min 4 on Oregon Rule & Law
Limited Maintenance (LME) - 8 hours total, min 2 hours on Code Change
Limited Energy Tech, Class A (LEA) - 8 hours total, min 8 on Code Change
Limited Energy Tech Class B (LEB) - 8 hours total, min 2 on Code Change
Limited Renewable Energy Tech (LRT) - 4 hours total, min 2 Code Change
Limited Journey Sign (SIG) - 4 hours total, min on 2 Code Change
Limited Building Maintenance Electrician (BME), Limited Elevator Journeyman Electrician (E), Limited Stage Electrician (ST), and the Limited Maintenance Manufactured Structures Electrician (LMM), are exempt from continuing education requirements.
Note: Courses are not approved for Oregon Contractor Licenses.
Oregon Electrical License Renewal: Oregon Licensees must renew by October 1st every 3 years; renewal year varying by license type. You can renew your license on the Board website.
