New York Professional Engineers
New York
Board Requirements
Below is a summary of the Board's continuing education
requirements for engineers licensed
in the state of New York:
Subject |
Requirement |
Hours Required |
36 PDH triennially |
Renewal Dates |
Based on the licensee's date of birth |
Course Approval |
New York pre-approves providers/sponsors
of continuing education
courses and educational
activities, but not specific
courses or activities. A course or educational
activity must be presented
by a board-approved provider/sponsor
in order for the activity
to be accepted.
Acceptable continuing education includes
courses and educational
activities:
Courses
To be considered acceptable, a course must be administered by
an approved sponsor, in
an approved subject area
and in an approved format. Additionally, the student
must have the opportunity
for immediate interaction
with an instructor/presenter,
e.g. a seminar, workshop,
lecture, technical presentation,
etc.
Educational Activities
A number of activities meet the Board's definition
of educational activities. Among these, the Board classifies
online courses under the
heading of "self-study" activities. Self-study
must be taken from an approved
provider and in an acceptable
subject area and be structured
study that is based on audio,
audio-visual, written, online,
or other media, and does
not meet the criteria established
for live instruction. In addition, a self-study
program must have a testing
instrument, which is completed
by the licensee and returned
to the sponsor for scoring.
A passing grade is required
before a sponsor may award
continuing education credit.
PDHengineer.com is a Board-approved continuing
education sponsor in the
