I took the 2008 Changes to the NEC online because my scheduled class was canceled. I liked that I was able to do it at home as I desired and had plenty of time to answer questions. This being my first online continuing education course I was impressed and will take my next course the same way.

Sarina is by far the best part of the program. She walks you through all the difficult steps in a calm, reassuring way. She always returns phone calls and answers all my questions no matter how silly they may seem. I had no idea what I was in for or what test I could qualify to test for. After speaking with Sarina for about ten minutes I dared to dream and believe bigger than I ever did before. She was right, after working in this industry for over twenty-eight years, I needed to go for all the whole enchilada. I am now studying harder than I ever did as an apprentice because I feel as if Mike, Sarina and all the rest of the wonderful teachers are giving me the best possible chance of passing my exam on the first try..

I purchased the Mike Holt Master Exam Prep DVDs and books, a few weeks ago, after I had previously purchased a master exam prep from another company. The first was designed to teach "how to take the test"; this, however was not enough for me to be successful on test day.
The Mike Holt exam prep guides you through each subject as needed for you to learn the material not only to pass a test but to gain knowledge to use every day in our trade. This is what our industry needs today. I am very thankful to Mike and his staff for there dedication to our industry. I passed the master exam after and only after I studied with the Mike Holt prep material.
I strongly suggest this material to anyone looking for success on there exam.

Sarina, I would like to inform you I passed both the business and technical tests for my state license. Passed the first time out on 6/22 and 6/23 with a 99% on both (ask John about the 99%). The class I took with John Mills was very good and listening to him during the marathon sessions and the ideas I had on taking the test all worked out well!
John is a VERY GOOD instructor and I would recommend him and Mike Holt to any one looking to take the test for a state license. Again thank you all for a great experience and a very successful testing process.

I would give the State Class a 10 based on the knowledge of the instructor. The most important thing I learned was how to navigate the manuals and what to look for on the test. The content approach was quite good and it was well worth the time to attend. John is a very knowledgeable man!!! A good instructor who knows when to back off a little to help us to regroup our minds and relax some and then proceed. He is very, very knowledgeable in the subject and is a credit to the Mike Holt Company. I did enjoy my time in class even though by the end of each day I was exhausted and ready to rest. Again the way the class is organized is excellent, and is very informative. You don't know that at first and the first day did get frustrating but after it was apparent why John did things the way he did.

I liked the extremely rapid response to my order - confirmation of the order, order shipment notification and tracking information. Although I have not yet examined the Understanding the NEC books I purchased in depth, I very much like the page layout and the use of colored graphics to present the various topics. These points are in contrast to other references which have extremely busy/cramped page layouts and only use black and white illustrations.

I took the Texas Laws and Rules online course because I have a very high level of confidence in anything that Mike Holt has his name attached to. I have taken your on-line course before & liked it! I like that I can do it from my office & can work on it as I have time. I can save work done & pick it up later. It is an excellent & easy to use course. In a normal CEU course, you just have to show up and sit through it. You can take a nap if you want to. Your on-line courses engage me in learning the subject -- you're required to understand the topic to be able to answer the questions.

Upon my exit from the U.S. Air Force, I found myself basically without a job. Some thought, time and energy and thought was put into pre-college courses. But I still remained let’s say with no focused career path. Fortunately a break came in the way of a great opportunity to interview for a local major manufacturing plant. This was the place that started me toward becoming an electrician.
Not only did this provide me with a good income for my family, I received technical training for instrumentation. While at the same facility was part of a site wide electrical training program, which encouraged me to become a journeyman electrician.
After a very fulfilling 30 years of service and experience I took an early retirement. In July of 2006 I began vigorously pursuing to open my own electrical contractor’s business. All that stood in the pathway was the “Master electrician license”. I proceeded to begin the task of studying and preparing for the test. Each time I took the exam and failed sometimes by just a few points. I began to doubt that this feat was feasible for me; that’s when I found mikeholt.com. After I had made my purchase of a couple of books and DVDs Mike’s staff called me and set me up with the material that I “really” needed to become successful. The rest was up to me.
For almost two weeks and eight to ten hours a day, I watched and read each lesson. The discussions in the program kept my interest throughout the entire series. On the next scheduled exam I overwhelmingly passed!
I now run a small electrical contracting service, AES Electric, which would not have been possible without all of the support of my family, friends and the program from Mike Holt.

I want to thank Mike Holt for the training he gave me several years ago at his Top Gun training class. I am still using the techniques he gave me for my power point presentations. The use of the proper background colors...the font colors and sizes...as well as the suggestion of taking out all the extra sounds I was using for the slides (which were distracting and not necessary). My power points presentations are now very professional looking and easy to read even in classroom lighting.
I have been using of Mike Holt's books since 1994. Anyone who hasn't taken this Top Gun two day training and uses power point should seriously consider going...it is well worth the time and money.

What a wonderful world; everything you need to get ahead in the Electrical world is located at Mike Holt.com. The textbooks cover all aspects of Electrical theory and calculations, plus the DVDs were easy to view and back up and watch that lesson again. I benefited more from this on-line course because of having the ability to migrate back and forth. This course took the same amount of time as a classroom would have and I did not have to do any traveling. I thought the course was very appropriate.

John showed ways to simplify important formulas and equations, and how to prepare and take a test properly. John is probably one of the best instructors I have ever had in my 30 year career!!! John was energetic, funny, and kept your attention and focus on the learning the material. He always took the time to explain anything you didn’t quite understand. And that was difficult given the amount of material we have to absorb over 6 days of classes. He really knows his stuff!! I have an electronics background and he showed me some shortcuts with calculations and formulas that made it so easy. Unbelievable!!

The course I took, Limited Energy, far surpassed what I expected it to be. I rate this course a 10. This rating is, for the most part, due to the way the topics were covered. I learned a lot and will be back when I decide to take the UNLIMITED test.
I have taken other classes in the past covering various topics. John was by far the most instructive, patient and comical instructor I have had the pleasure of dealing with. He kept the class interesting. I was worried about falling asleep with the amount of time that we were in session, not with John as the instructor. There were things that didn't "sink in" the first time and he took the time to go over them again in a different manner and what do you know, it worked. His life experiences made a lot of the material easier to comprehend and understand.

I like the prompt customer support. Your online code update for the 2008 NEC was very good - it covered the items that we encounter everyday. I learned some new things as well as refreshed my memory on some things I had forgotten. You covered a broad spectrum of the NEC, not just the first half of the book as many other update courses do. I took Code Changes 2008 NEC online: I liked that it covered 700 and 800. You did a good job, most of those "otherguys" do not cover anything past 440 - this is a part of the code book that a lot of us are lacking in training.

I was put into a situation where I needed to get a Florida Alarm 1 license. I bought your courses, studied your books, DVDs and attended your review class. It was all overwhelming and I knew I was in over my head. The most motivating thing in the process was your 20 minute unscheduled visit to our class. Mike, you said we would pass the test. It may not be the first time or the second, but you said we'd pass the test. That inspired me to keep going on. I took the tests Mike, both of them in Florida and I did not pass them. God passed them for me. In November the State of Florida issued me a Florida Alarm 1 License. Thank you for the tools and motivation. I've got a long way to go, but I'm on my way.

I have been a student/seminar attendee for 33 years. Because of you I have achieved more than I originally dreamed of when I started in business on May 1, 1973.
Over the years I have mimicked your approach to our trade with the employees we have had. I firmly believe this trade requires more skill and mental acuity than any other trade. Professional, quick and accurate response. I have dealt with Mike Holt Enterprises on numerous occasions, and frequently use the web site for my employees, and my personal training. The on-line sample tests are very good, and the study material is the best I've found. I've tried other providers, and discovered that Mike Holt's products are superior. In the past I’ve spent about 4 weeks going over motors, motor circuiting, and motor controls. The students really seem to struggle with the motor controls part. I’ve purchased your book “Mike Holts Illustrated Guide to Understanding Basic Motor Controls” and really like the straightforward, step by step approach. I think that there are many illustrations in this textbook that fill in the blanks for those students that are struggling. I’d like to use some of the illustrations in the textbook in my class.

John was a good teacher kept things lively & upbeat so as to avoid becoming bored & losing focus. As I have been an electrician some 21 years now & have operated a business in Florida for going on five years I am quite familiar with the trade as you can imagine. This course focused on passing the test which is not necessarily the same as being a good electrical contractor. Even with my experience I was able to pickup some additional knowledge which I probably would have either had to find by trial & error. Overall a very informative class.

I would like to thank John and George for there dedication and commitment to all the students who attended the September 09 unlimited course. This course was top notch and well executed. John really knows how to break questions down into there simplest form. I took both business and technical exams and scored a 99% on the first try. WOW!!! I took the KY masters exam after home studying myself, but failed with a 55%. I then purchased your masters exam material and thought it was excellent. After 4 weeks of intense study I passed with confidence.
The videos were extremely helpful, especially if you pause as Mike says, answer the study question then keep going. I was extremely happy with the videos even before I took the test - the knowledge I gained was that fast and noticeable. Thanks so much.

I ordered your study program for my Masters electrical for Washington State in early March. I only gave myself three weeks to study. I listened to all the DVDs and picked through the books while listening. I signed up after a week of studying and two weeks later I sat for a 7 hour day on a Saturday. I took the test mostly to see what I needed to study. Surprise - I passed first time! I COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU GUYS!! I can't give enough thanks.

First off I would like to thank you for the work of putting together study guides that really worked for me. When I first started on my way to getting a state license it was overwhelming looking at the NEC 2005. Once I got the exam preparation material it seemed like a long time before I was done with all those questions, four months, but when I was finished the code book was not so confusing any more. I only missed one question for sure, it was a calculation of millihenreys. I figure it was one of those you should miss for sure.

Good morning Sarina. Thanks to all the staff at Mike Holt for the excellence in which the Exam Prep Class was handled. Starting with John and Jorge, I can not say enough. It was as he stated from the very beginning. All we need to do is listen to him and follow his instructions and advice and we'll pass the test. I honestly believe that I would not have passed the test with as much ease, let alone at all, if it were not for that week I spent in Kissimmee cramming. I do not believe that I wouldn't have passed the test eventually, but the course provided something that is pretty difficult for any of us to get at home and that's uninterrupted study and concentration. I have done my share of studying at home for other exams as well as continuing education courses. Mike has been my mentor since I started with you guys back in 1990. But there is no way I would have reached the level of focus and preparation had I attempted to study on borrowed time at home or work. I will say this; any person even contemplating taking the state exam will be doing them selves a tremendous injustice if they do not take this course. I strongly believe you simply can not be better prepared any other way. Not just for the exam itself, but with all the help and advice we received along the way. John and Jorge really wanted us to pass that test and they couldn't have given any more of them selves to show it. It is very refreshing to get as much feedback from ordering online as I have received since I made the order with MikeHolt. I do a lot of ordering online and in most cases there is not a lot of communication from the company that you ordered from. This was not the case with this order. I passed the Maryland master electrician exam 7/11/08 the first time. You are the best instructor I have ever had. Even though I never met you I feel I know you. He took a course at another school last year and my husband was so frustrated that they could not teach him how to do the calculation problems and that was the only part of the exam he had issues with. I have taken the exam 4 times and I feel like this time I did very well compared to previous attempts. I am a specialty contractor and Mike Holt teaches to each contractor as the test is given for that category. JOHN IS AN INCREDIBLE TEACHER! He taught me more in the two hours of calculations than the other school could ever teach me. I took the test 3 times and never was able to figure calculations. Also John taught us how to use the NEC code book (not just how to highlight the book). On the 1 to 10 scale you would rate about a 15. I honestly don't know how you could change your program for the better. I actually feel like I passed this time! and that is the only thing that really matters most. Also your continuing education online is awesome too!

The seminar was so helpful that without it, one does not stand a chance. of course the student is only as good as the teacher and John Mills is great. I also took his night classes as Miami Springs senior and I must say he grilled me til I got it. Hello Sarina. If you recall I called you on Friday after the low voltage test to tell you how hard it was. (At least I think it was) I think taking that test had me much more “experienced” for the next one because when I took the business test on Saturday it was pretty easy. I passed that one with no problem.

Hi Sarina! I don't know if you would remember speaking to me or not but earlier this year I had ordered the study materials for the EC exam in March for my husband, Dan. You strongly suggested he attend a seminar because the pass rate for self study wasn't as high. I passed that information onto my husband but stubborn as he is, he was bound to try to pass the exam without the seminar. I am proud to say that after many late nights and tired mornings, my husband was successful in passing the EC exam in March. They keep valuable information coming at you the entire week, but they way it is delivered (teaching methods) really locks it into your memory, which allows you to be able to answer about half of the questions on the test with out having to cruise through 5 different books. I just wanted you guys to know what a good job they did, and that I would recommend your classes to anyone attempting to pass a state exam.

This is Amiee from your March 1-6 class...I wanted to let you know that I passed! I got a 99 on the exam ;) The time flew by and I had to guess on about 12 questions but C was the favorite answer! I think if people had more time, then more of them would pass.
I took the Business Exam and passed that as well, I guess I am now certifiable!

Received letter today from DPBR passed the July 6 Exam with 82 or as John Mills says a "99". It took me from Nov. to this July to become familiar with all the reference books and how to use them. I know I was unrealistic in believing that the "crash" course would allow me to bypass this requirement. Why? Because at my age 73, but 74 on Oct. 6, 2006 , I don't have a lot of time left to waste studying. Actually, if I can raise some funds I intend to rebuild my Electric Vehicle (now rusted out) and maybe in three years build as many as 200 per year.

Dear Mike - I stopped by your office to pick up a Home Study Book Progaram. That was all i wanted ... just pick up my books and leave. I am a busy contractor and don't like to wait around. Freddy insisted I speak with Sarina who had an appointment in her office. So i waited and waited and waited. And boy am i glad that I waited! Sarina took me in her office and started asking me questions about why i was wanted to take the exam and if i had questions or needed help. I was able to tell her i had NO IDEA what i was doing. She answered my questions, helped me and suggested excellent additional resources. I am a woman with management experience, not your typical work in the field and work your way up under "qualified" companies contractor. I needed Divine direction to get my application through and I knew it. For 2 LONG YEARS I tried to figure out how I would qualify to take the exam and then how i would pass it. Ironically, the morning before meeting Sarina, I prayed. I wanted to thank you for the energy and attention to detail that you commanded in our unlimited electrical exam preparation last month. When I finished the exam I wasn't sure I had passed, but knew that if I hadn't, that I would after November's class. I'm happy to report that I passed both portions and will submit my certified application soon.
If you remember, I hadn't even purchased the text books until Friday afternoon. Without your plan, I wouldn't have passed either portion. It would be safe to say that I might've gotten a 0% or 15% on the Business and Law as I hadn't seen any of it before our course.
You deserve much credit and I want you to know that I hope Mike takes good care of you. I'm a very satisfied customer and the time and money were the best investments I've made in my company. It was a great week.

It took some time but after speaking to ten different people the state has finally fixed their mistake. My application was approved in June yet some how I was removed from the list. No one in the state seems to understand how it happened. I have my thoughts. Any way, they finally contacted me yesterday and not only mailed the admission slip, they faxed me copy in case anything should go wrong.
Again, thank you so much for your help and supplying me the proper number and person to call to get this issue straightened out. My application to the ADA was also accepted and I am getting 2.5 more hours and a private room to take the test. What a deal. Guess being handicapped has its privileges.
You have been a great help and I thank you again for being more than just a business. You definitely have proved that your companies objective is to fully assist the applicants and not just fill a class.

Our city building department hosts seminars every year and the seminar on Nov. 1st went very well. Everyone was impressed with Mike's book
(Understanding the NEC, Vol. 1). The book is loaded with good information and he uses great illustrations. Mike Holt was one of our seminar speakers
about three years ago and (in my opinion) was the best speaker we've ever had. That's saying a lot actually because we've had some pretty top-notch
speakers at our seminars, but Mike is definitely at the top of the heap. His knowledge, charisma, and willingness to tackle controversial subjects makes
him a provocative and dynamic speaker.
Mike makes learning the Electrical Code (a normally boring and dry subject), an absolute pleasure. His books contain fantastic illustrations, which are a tremendous aid in helping to decipher what the Code is actually saying. Mike Holt has done as much for promoting electrical knowledge in the 21st century as Benjamin Franklin has done in introducing us to electricity a few centuries ago. I hate that this sounds so much like a commercial endorsement, but I mean every word. I don't know Mike personally and I don't make a penny for plugging him or his products, but he's worth every positive endorsement I can give.

I don't know if you remember me but I spoke with you several times about the Exam Preparation book, which I ended up using for an advanced NEC class. You were extremely helpful to me and the book worked out even better than I hoped. Two of my students were successful in passing the Ohio Contractors License Exam on their first attempt and all eight (I think) of them were very pleased with the class. I read this article and just had to drop a note. If you think the books are great, try the exam prep course with John as well. I took the course last fall after a few months of basic study and felt well prepared for the exam. When I actually took the test, I was amazed. It was almost like John had read the test and prepared the class just for that test. I completed both sections of the State EC long before the required time limit
and had plenty of time to proof my answers prior to submitting my sheets. When the results came in a 91% was my reward. I can't says thanks enough for all of the hard, professional work that goes into your material. Tell John thanks and feel free to use this letter how you like.

The state's website says I passed the exam for Alarm One at the 08 July '03 sitting, an event that took place with powerful help from you, all of your coworkers and Mike and also a half-dozen people in Tallahassee. The DBPR applications process went bad, real bad and I engaged 2 of 3 branches of government and was considering the possibility of the 3rd, my phone/Email list suddenly became most,uh, efficient.
My test bore almost no resemblance to the highlighting and practice exams, but the course, your help, encouragement and confidence, my instructors and Mike, as individuals exceeded the sum of the the parts. The exam was "like three rounds with a middleweight". It appears coaching played the major part of things and the first Email among a dozen is to you.

Could not be happier to tell you that I passed the Test as well as my other two friends from Hypower. Again, thank you for that week in “hell”. It paid off.
Once again, thank you for your time and for teaching and training us during the last week. If you ask me, I think your “boot camp” paid off. I have a good feeling that I passed because I was able to find most answers. I am hoping I bubble them right. We had a little bit of everything. There were three problems about relays, no load calc, no range and two questions from the Contractor’s Manual in the morning. The afternoon part was pretty much straight forward.
On another note, guess what? The guy sitting next to me had one book: the NEC. At least he knew who Mike Holt was because he had Mike Holt’s Exam Prep Book and the NEC Changes but he was told to put them away. You will probably see him in July.

It is very appropriate for apprenticeship programs and industrial training that I do. why don't you folks add a chapter on mesh and nodal analysis and a chapter on some of the classical electrical theorems ( Thevenin's , Norton, superposition ect) the book would be appropriate for two-year electrical technology programs in a 2-year college?

Wanted to let you know that we've been using the grounding video for our latest round of in house training sessions for our electricians, apprentices and foreman. We do it in several small groups (9-12 people). Day 1 a group watches four hours of the video followed by a few hours of hands on experiments Dave & I came up with. Then on Day 2 they watch part two of the video followed by more hands on.
I wanted to let you know that many of our guys said it was the best in house training session we've ever had and one of our foreman who has been here 40 years told me that (after watching the video) for the first time ever everything finally tied in and came together for him on the subject (he was fairly knowledgeable on grounding prior to the session but this video truly closed all the loops for him). I wish I could forward you all of the compliments on your work as it has turned into an exceptional session.
We're getting ready to place an order for the books but I have held up waiting for the new book to come out. Do you have any idea when that will be? Please let me know as we'd like to order around 40-50 copies.

You may recall recent communications with me requesting a desk copy of Mike's "Understanding the NEC" and the accompany
workbook. I have received these and reviewed them. They are excellent, and will fulfill my instructing needs wonderfully.
At the time of my request for these books I had expected to teach "Code 1" in the Spring semester at a local college. Since I am a junior member of the adjunct facility at this college, I don't always get to teach the courses I prefer. That is the case this time.
I have been asked to teach "Code 3". Code 1 dovetails nicely with the textbook mentioned above, but is not appropriate for Code 3.
Code 3 is designed to provide a review for students that have completed previous Code classes and are contemplating sitting for their Journeyman' Exam. Here in Virginia, for at least the next year, this exam will be based on the 99 NEC. What I am requesting from you is information on textbooks and training aids based on the 99 NEC that would be appropriate for this course.
For your information, I will be teaching Code 1 starting in the fall semester of 2003, followed by Code 2 & Code 3. At that time I will be using your products mentioned above that are based on the 2002 Code.
As a follow up on a previous e-mail I sent to you, I had requested your directions as to what I should do with the desk copy of the materials I received. Are they considered complimentary, should I return them to you, or would you like to bill me? I just don't want to take advantage of your generosity.
Also, I would like to share something with you. As my instructing career begins to grow, I've noticed that I often mimic Mike's style and techniques. This is meant as a compliment. Mike, through his various videos and textbooks, is the only real instructor I ever utilized. I try to motivate and inspire my students, the same way he did me. I try to convey my interest and concern for the "whole student" and for our chosen profession. Even though I've only had about a minute to personally speak to Mike, I would have to consider him my mentor. If I am able to have the positive impact on my students to the degree that Mike has had on me, then I will consider my efforts a success.

I thought this was one of the best references I’ve seen because it clarified things in terms that electrician’s are familiar with and the information was very practical for what we do. Early in the spring I plan on doing a class on motors and over current/over load protection using Mike’s books. I’ve already purchased Vol 1 of understanding the 2002 NEC and am using info from it, especially the test questions to teach my crew. Serena The class in National Electrical Code Fundamentals at a local industrial site is going very well. I was originally hired to teach this class to 10 individuals - 6 apprentices and 4 journeymen. The training director was reluctant to admit any more to the class because the training budget is tight and he did not want to spend money of books and resources. After the class started , the word quickly got out that the class was a excellent class and several more workers requested to be admitted. Four additional students were allowed to attend and as you know I ordered 4 more books. The third session was held this last Monday and I was asked if I could take two more. Hence the order for two more books. The class is a lot of fun because in using the power point illustrations , persons don't have to keep their nose in the book and I can maintain good eye contact and see if persons are mastering the material. The power point also really enhances the book material because the illustrations are "real world" , something the students have typically seen before, and can easily relate to the workplace. The power point also makes it easy for the instructor to prepare for class--I typically spent about 45 minutes preparing a lesson plan and getting ready for the class. I have taught several courses in Programmable Logic Controllers at this facility and this is the first time in my experience that students are reluctant to leave the class after 3 hours. I might add the men are taking this class on their own time which says that they are enjoying the class and are learning the material.
The training is going very well. I have 9 electricians that I am currently training.The information we received has been very useful. I would recommend this course in the future.

Just a thank-you note. I got the code update books and other stuff OK. Thank you very much for your help! This will be a great class and I know everybody attending will go home full. That was really nice of you to replace my stolen videos & stuff. I have always sent people to you but I am sure you will be getting lots more because of things like that. Most companies just look at bottom line and would never even consider something for free or discounted below cost. I won't send them just for free stuff but the idea that if something bad does happen you & mike are real people! I also make sure my boss is aware of things like this.
In my non profit school it is hard to get needed or wanted items without "justification !" It's hard to expand "out-of-the-box" with programs when you have to show numbers for something that has never been done.Even then the first class may be small or maybe huge and the second class bombs. To increase my knowledge I usually buy the books out of my own pocket and write it off at year end taxes. Some of the publishers are good about "desk copies" but not always and sometimes they will let you preview for only for
a week or so and if it doesn't come right back you get billed! Not to count the cost of shipping it back.

The copy of the NEC Code that I received, " Understanding the National Electrical Code, Volume 1 is excellent. I would like to receive a desktop copy of the "Electrician's Exam Preparation book also. My students take a 1 credit course on how to basically read the NEC code book would like to know how much it cost for Volume 1 and 2? I presently have 45 students, they have seen the copy of volume 1 that you sent me and really like it. It makes understanding the NEC so much easier. Some students learn by visual, hands on and hearing, this makes it easier for them.

Hi Sarina. I received on Tuesday the first package you had sent. I reviewed the "Electrical Exam Preparation" text. Currently it is in the hands of several of our fifth-year apprentices. They took the exam last spring using the _____ product. So I felt they could give me a good comparison. After they give me feedback, I'll pass it on to the other instructors. I can tell you at this point that I will recommend to our Director that we drop _____'s product and go to Mike's. The first thing that impressed me about the text was was to whom Mike dedicated the book. Myself being a Christian, I was impressed with Mike's courage to step-out and place that dedication in the book.
Regarding content, I feel the graphics and color are superior to what we are currently using. I also liked the format of each chapter and the fact that rather than purchase two or three _____ texts, this one text seems to accomplish what is covered by three separate _____ texts.
The only negative issue that I personally feel about the text, is that there at times seems to be too much information jammed together on one page. I realize that there is a bunch of material to cover and if you increased font size or spread things out, the book will become thicker, but looking from a student's perspective, some of those busy pages can be overwhelming. Our students get step-by-step lectures each week while they are in the classroom and we typically use the text as a reference to enhance their own study time in between school weeks. Because of this, I don't see our students being bothered by this concern however, I was thinking of an individual out there who doesn't have the benefit of classroom instruction and may be studying on his/her own. Again, its just my own personal observation.
I should have a definitive decision on whether to switch texts within the next week. At that time, if we decide on Mike's text we'll probably place an order to stock our retail library. Again if we go to your text, since we instruct exam preparation classes throughout the state, we'll then begin using and endorsing this text in all our classes. We will also look at including this text in our fourth-year text book order that is placed during the summer break. We add this type of text in the fourth year due to much of the year being devoted to preparing for the Experior exam that is given here at our state training center.
The only question I currently have is what is the price of the Exam Preparation text and are there price breaks for quantity?
One other thing, after we receive the grounding package, I'll let you know what the opinion is on it also. We currently use the _____'s grounding text in our curriculum.

Mike, I just wanted to write to you regarding the materials that we received from you, for the Journeyman Electrician Training.
We are a small company in California and there has been recent legislation which is going to require all Electricians to be certified in our area. Because of this, there is a scramble to prepare for the upcoming testing for this certification.
We decided to go with your materials because we knew that you have dedicated his life to teaching the codes and theory behind every successful electrician. It was a hard decision as there was considerable pressure to go with the local group and take the course they were offering. We opted to go with Mike Holt Enterprises, Inc. for the following reasons:
1. We wanted to do an in-house program
2. We wanted an instructor that had a proven track record.
3. We wanted an organized and structured approach that has been successful in the past.

We have been meeting for several weeks now, every Tuesday evening for a three hour class, and are extremely pleased with your materials. Your style of presentation, positive outlook, good humor and realistic approach has been excellent. You can really tell you have been through this material many times and you know it very well. We have found the content to be just right.
The materials presented are the important things without a lot of unnecessary stuff to sift through. From the layout of the text to the progression of information covered it has all been expertly presented and easy to absorb. Our communications with your office and your willingness to assist us has been top notch. Keep up the good work.
Oh, by the way, the other group is also using your Exam Preparation text book. That pretty much says it all doesn't it??

Thank you for great teaching materials. I use your DVD, textbooks, and PowerPoint presentations in my classes and the students and administrators are astounded!
I configured a PC to run your DVD presentation with enough computer-power to simultaneously run a half dozen PowerPoint presentations and the 2002 Handbook.
We are able to seamlessly multitask among all this information in order to demonstrate the NEC to the students in living color, animation, sound, and print. If a question arises during the DVD, we switch to the written code for the exact language, and then to PowerPoint for a graphic illustration or two, together with a few of my added written fly-ins, and then switch back to your DVD to continue the show. We are now able to breath life and excitement into the code and have some fun learning it. I understand that people learn better while listening to Baroque music in the background and will be trying to overlay background sound effects in the future.
I feel like a movie producer, rather than an electrical instructor! This grand production makes the two-hour class session seem like 30 minutes and EVERYONE in the classroom is learning the NEC like never before!

Dear Mike, I just wanted to write you to tell you how very thankful I am to you for the 99 masters prep book you wrote. It was very easy to use and very helpful. I live in Baltimore and work for the utility here as an electrician. Unlike most of my coworkers I never attended a formal apprenticeship program. Just a vocational school when in high school, where I took the electrical program. The book was so understandableand the calculations so easy to learn.
I studied your book for 8 months after I took a calculations refresher. On 1- 28-03 I took the Marylandstatewide masters exam and passed on the first try, in fact I was so prepared I finished the test in 2 hours. I didn't even realize I was done until I hit a key that said end, and it started grading the test and about 3 seconds later it said congratulations you passed. With all of the downsizing utilities are doing lately I thought I better prepare myself. Last year my work group went from 20 to 10 people, and @35 I thought I better have a backup plan. All the time I was studying I hoped and prayed I would someday be writing you this letter.

I started using your material back in 1995 and have benefited greatly by using it. I scored a 94% on my journeyman test and a 96% on my Masters test a few years later.

Thanks for sending me a copy of volume one and two of Understanding The National Electrical Code.
I truly do like it. I think that you have the best book on the market to learn-teach the NE code by. I agree with the decision to print the document in two volumes. No doubt sales of volume two will be less, but it will aid in making volume one more price competitive and fit a first semester course better. I fail to understand see why any one would want to produce a book today using only two colors, heck even newspapers are in color. Extensive use (and available to the instructor) of graphics helps to obtain and maintain class participation. The various test also help the student and the instructor in confirming and documenting that learning has occurred.
I could go on and on listing the good things I like about your book, but you would only get bored, so as I said “I like it”

I’ve received his newsletter for over a year, and for that amount of time he has given me free of charge more information than any brother electrician I have known in my whole 14-year career. He is a blessing and an inspiration in that although he teaches and writes instructional material for a living, it seems that his mission is to help people, not make money like we all seem to be doing.”

I would like to thank you very much for your cooperation and generosity concerning the NEC materials you have provided me with. I am a 15-year member of the IBEW who went through my complete apprenticeship through the NJATC. My classification is inside wireman and most of my journeyman experience is in industrial work. Last September, I was running a job to wire an addition to the local area community college when I inquired about a job opening for a trainer/instructor for the electrical maintenance department. Having passed the Experior exam prior to that with the help of the NJATC and our own study group, I was hired within 24 hours to instruct NEC courses, among other related subjects.
Having never heard of Mike Holt or any of his material prior to this time, I was lucky to find that the college had used this material before and just purchased a complete set of videos and manuals. My first training assignment was to evaluate a group of maintenance personnel and prepare them for the journeyman exam. Upon evaluation, I decided these persons needed to start with the basics and work their way up from there. My supervisor gave me an electrical theory text the size of Webster's Dictionary to use, and my first thought was this was way too in-depth for the outcome I was trying to reach. So, I started going through our Holt set and found the Electrical Theory manual and gave it a quick read. My first impression was that this book is perfect, direct and to the point material, excellent graphics and informative videos. So, at this point, I decided to split my class into three parts: Electrical Theory, Understanding the NEC, and Exam Prep, with all areas using Mike Holt text. Upon ordering these books, and through the goodness of your heart, you informed me that you would also send me PowerPoints to use with these. Being new at all this, I really didn't know how helpful these would be until I brought them up on my computer and saw all those great graphics and notes in color on my screen.
So, I started using all these materials as instructional aids and for furthering my own knowledge, and have found them to be very helpful in getting my points across, lessening class time pondering on a subject, and aiding the students in learning by not confusing them.
This semester I am instructing a NEC class with 40+ students for one hour, twice a week, which doesn't leave a lot of time for discussion. So I am very appreciative of all your cooperation and your excellent products. Again, thank you very much, and if I can ever be of help please let me know. I'll be more than willing to give any input I can to help you out.

Thanks for producing power point slides for instructors to accompany your books. I have previously used your slides from "Understanding the NEC", " Grounding and Bonding" and the "Electrician Exam Prep". They are all great and make it so much easier to put together a high quality presentation that is easy for the student to follow since the slides come from the text as well as having clear NEC code references. The graphics that Mike Culbreath has put together for the power point and for the texts are so distinctive and explanatory that it really makes learning easier and more fun for our students. Most of us really need that extra graphic to put the code into a real world perspective, so we can "picture" the installation.
The most awesome application that I have made of your power point is still the Code Changes slides with the video clip inserts. I took the short video clips from your class on the code changes and inserted them into the power point at the appropriate places. This really helps to add another level of interactivity to the presentation and keeps the student interested and attuned to the topic under discussion.
Thanks again for the great products that you are producing to help us be the best possible instructors. What you are doing makes a difference by improving our classes and in turn improves the level of understanding of those working in the electrical trade.
