John, my instructor, had great presentation and control of the class. He knew when to lighten the mood and take breaks. He was informative and kept us engaged. I learned a lot of tips for test taking and breaking questions down to target where to find answers. I passed my business test the first try! The technical is on 12/3 and I feel I’m ready for it. The instructor was very pleasant. He is very knowledgeable and has test taking skills perfected. The home study was a wealth of information.

John is an amazing teacher and knows how to get through to an individual that doesn’t understand something. He taught us how to use the textbooks, and most importantly the Contractor’s Manual. The way you guys explain every single topic is very easy to understand. It helped me a lot to pass my VA Journeyman exam.

The most important thing learned was to categorize and tab specific chapters through the Florida contractor’s manual, OSHA, NFLA 101, & NFPA 72. John gave many hints to what we could expect on the tests. I liked how John also had specific and yet simplistic ways to remember facts, ways they stick in your brain. This guy knows his stuff! As usual everything was great. I took Mike’s class 22 years ago and passed my exam on the first try.  I have been taking the class in person for CEU's and this is my first online class. Great class, I actually learned from it.

You excel at your goal to help students memorize the NEC! You make the lessons interesting by teaching Theory, and then putting Theory to work with a pencil and a calculator. You then provide exercises through taking an NEC test, which gets the student used to the idea of looking up, locating and understanding the relevant Code, and performing the needed pencil-work. Theory, practice and NEC testing are interleaved, using repetition to burn the subject into our minds. Without even realizing it, we find that we have truly memorized the NEC. When we are ready to take the test, we find this great review guide, the stacks of paper are now all in order; where we wrote down the problems, learning the order of tasks with the NEC Code references, necessary to arrive at the solutions. Some of us even added an extra table of contents and useful tabs to our copy, discovering that we have built a personal copy of the NEC. And long before we arrived here, we realized that the paperback NEC, which we marked, goes with us to the test! Keep selling the book packages, such as Basic Electrical Theory, Understanding the NEC, Exam Preparation, and answer keys to everything!

I purchased the the Master Exam Book Package sometime back. I studied the materials and then life got in the way. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, a very aggressive form. Through her treatments and surgeries, and a lot of praying for a cure for her, I studied on and off. In March of 2018 I lost my mother. It was single-handedly, the worst day of my life. After that day, I lost interest. It was better than a year and a half before I picked it up again. In June of 2019 I retired from my job of 25 years. While finishing jobs that were neglected at home because of my day job, and after hours of work, September came. I made a promise to myself and to my mother in heaven that I would study and finish the textbooks and workbooks. I finished them and scheduled my test for December 3rd 2019. On test day, I got registered and setup by the instructor. I started and went through the whole test answering the questions I knew right off. Forty-five minutes passed during this time and I had answered 65 questions, only 35 more to go and I’ve got 3 hours and 15 minutes left. I proceeded to finish the 35 questions. I ended my test with 11 minutes left. I gathered my things and the instructor asked me how I did. I said I'm not sure because that’s just me. She tells me that she will have my results in just a few minutes when they email them to her. I’m getting my things out of the locker and she hollers out “yay! You passed! You did good on the test! “ She said, “ That’s a good score for that test” I made an 82. I'm not sure about how good that compares, but it was good enough for me! I can’t thank you guys enough. Great study material! The only thing that was sad about that day is the one person that I wanted to share that I had passed with, I couldn’t. I know she knows though. Thanks again!

The most important thing I learned was how to quickly navigate the books that the exam criteria is based on. The presentation was excellent. It is a LOT of material to cover in 5 days and I think it was as balanced as it could have been. The 5 practice exams for both Business and Technical were GREAT. I am very much a "learn by repetition" student so this was a big help in understanding what to expect at game time on exam day. The back and forth from the Business exam material to the Technical exam material prevents anyone from getting overloaded and lets us reset. The fast pace keeps everyone on their toes. John is obviously a talented presenter and exam coach and his fast pace approach is what helped keep me engaged for 14 hours a day, 5 days in a row. I am hoping to have him as my instructor when I come back for my Unlimited Exam Prep class! I've taken training classes from 10+ organizations who provide home study material...Mike Holt's material is still far and away the best I've seen. I passed both of my exams on the first attempt and am now coordinating with API to apply for my license.
